Applied Herbal Choices for Animals

Applied Herbal Choices for Animals is a Level 4 Accredited Diploma Qualification integrating the study of the innate behavior of animals (particularly focusing on horses, dogs and cats) to self-select and self-medicate from nature, with knowledge of oils and wild herbs. Zoopharmacognosy and Pharmacophagny (remedy-eating) essentially mean the same thing and enables self-medicative behavior in domesticated and captive animals by offering plant extracts that would contain the same, or similar constituents to those found in an animal’s evolutionary history. We can work with nature to enable them to self-select. The practice encourages and allows animals to guide their own health needs, they know what they want and instinctively know how much or what and what order they need it in. Unlike their wild counterparts, captive and domesticated animals rarely have the opportunity to forage on medical plants. Once the animal has selected its remedy, it will then guide the session by inhaling it, taking it orally, or by rubbing a part of its body into it. Take a look at the video opposite for a 30 min explanation on how this works. Rather than explain this all in the sessions, since charging by the hour, I wanted to provide an understanding of what I do and how I do it. Grab a coffee and cake, sit back, and learn how you can help to change your pets life. It’s a brilliant idea for a Christmas or Birthday present and as ad-hoc maintenance sessions to maintain good health, prevent disease or catch problems early on. It is often life changing when they have 3 sessions and take this holistic journey to let go of past abuse, trauma or overcome physical ailments.

In under 10 minutes the video to the left looks at self-medicating in the wild. It’s an interesting perspective on how animals have evolved to instinctively know what their body needs. The goats and elephants to the right show the extents animals will go to in order to meet their needs.

"Since the session's my horse has been less destructive overnight with his stable, more amenable, bites less and is more relaxed. I really hoped the session would help with trust and it has achieved that. Really pleased with the outcome."

"I am so glad that I met Rachael and that she performed a session with my cat Coco regarding essential oils. My cat had general health issues, she was diabetic, overweight with digestive tract issues and had a skin condition. Since meeting Rachael and the recommendations she has given, my cats health has improved greatly, she has lost weight, is able to groom herself properly, her skin condition has virtually gone and she no longer has any digestive issues. One happy cat and one happy cat owner."

"My dog is 12 years old. He has suffered from skin allergies for most of his life. Rachael and I crossed paths and I thought why not try something different. Chew had 2 sessions and he is on a different holistic path. His diet has completely changed and I'm amazed watching him choose his own essential oils. I continued to be educated and open and Rachael has been patient and generous with her knowledge and expertise. This is the start of our journey and my boy looks so much better. He is less lethargic and I'm happily observing daily improvements. Thank you, Thank you."
